Currently serving as an ACPE Chaplain Educator at Overlook Medical Center (Atlantic Health System), Summit, NJ, Stephen is responsible for building a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program and recruiting students for an ACPE accredited center. He has also worked with Atlantic Health System on the Spiritual Care Steering Committee, which oversees the implementation of spiritual care policies and procedures in healthcare settings. Stephen's impressive work has even resulted in the securing of a $100,000 demonstration grant with the George Washington Institute for Spirituality & Health (GWISH).

In addition to his work at Overlook Medical Center, Stephen is also the Director & Founder of The Institute for Spiritual Midwifery, LLC, based in Hopewell, NJ. He has partnered with Jersey Shore University Medical Center and designed a CPSP accredited program for a virtual CPE program.

Qualifications

In 2021, Chaplain Faller achieved the prestigious designation of Certified Educator from the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), becoming the first to complete the Alternate Certification program. This certification recognizes his exceptional skills in providing education and training in the field of clinical pastoral education.

In 2014, Chaplain Faller played a pivotal role in obtaining Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Accreditation for the training program at Capital Health, marking it as the first accredited program of its kind at the institution. Additionally, he earned the title of Clinical Pastoral Education Diplomate Supervisor from the College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy (CPSP), further underscoring his expertise in supervising and guiding aspiring chaplains.

Chaplain Faller has also attained the designation of Clinical Fellow in Hospice & Palliative Care from CPSP, showcasing his specialized knowledge and commitment to providing compassionate care for individuals facing end-of-life situations.

In the spring of 2010, Chaplain Faller achieved the status of Board Certified Clinical Chaplain & Pastoral Counselor from CPSP, affirming his proficiency in offering comprehensive pastoral care and counseling services to those in need. His dedication and expertise were recognized through the publication of an article about his work by CPSP.

Having been ordained to the Order of Deacon (Word and Service) in the United Methodist Church in the summer of 2006, Chaplain Faller's faith and commitment to serving others have been integral to his professional journey. He had previously been commissioned in 2003.

Chaplain Faller holds a Master of Theology degree in Pastoral Care from Princeton Theological Seminary, earned between 1999 and 2000. During his studies, he conducted research and wrote a thesis on Spiritual Midwifery, a topic reflecting his passion for accompanying individuals on their spiritual journeys. This would later turn into a book project through a grant from the Louisville Institute.

Prior to his theological studies at Princeton, Chaplain Faller obtained a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School between 1996 and 1999. His academic pursuits included a thesis on Kierkegaard, as well as in-depth studies in personality theory and counseling, enhancing his understanding of human behavior and the dynamics of counseling relationships.

Chaplain Faller’s educational journey commenced with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (Writing Emphasis) from Davidson College, which he completed between 1990 and 1994. During his undergraduate studies, he earned recognition for his exceptional nonfiction writing skills, receiving a prestigious nonfiction award in 1994.
